The agency recruits and trains volunteers, providing a range of volunteer opportunities, including: K-Ready Readers (ongoing opportunity) - Volunteers are trained in the fall and spring to read to preschoolers using techniques that effectively build pre-literacy skills. K-Ready Kids (April / May opportunity) - Numerous volunteer opportunities are available in April and May to collect school supplies and help fill and distribute backpacks with new books, a kindergarten readiness calendar, parent resources and school supplies to 1,100 children entering kindergarten in the fall. Penny Smart Kids (Spring / Fall opportunity) - Twice a year, volunteers are trained to read a financially themed book and facilitate a corresponding activity with preschoolers.
