1. The Victim Assistance Advocacy Program at the Carroll County Attorney’s Office provides information, guidance and support to victims of crime and their families. 2. The Victim Assistance Program, as part of the prosecution team, ensures that victims of crime are heard throughout the process and that they are informed at every stage of the case in which they are involved.

Helps victims with applications for Victim Assistance (medical expenses/counseling/relocation expenses etc.), informs victim(s) and witness of case status and dispositions, of ongoing status, dates and times of hearing, trials and final disposition, acts as a liaison between victims/witnesses and the prosecutor and/or police department, provides pretrial courtroom tours, accompany and supporting the victim and witness throughout the trial, arranges meetings and depositions if ordered, transport for witnesses as needed, directs the victim to community resources for further assistance, assists in the preparation of a statement to the court describing the impact the crime has had on the victim, ensures that the victim is notified of any parole hearings. Also informs victim of any changes in parole status.

Court Advocacy is provided by trained volunteers and staff who offer support and assistance in obtaining protective orders and during other court appearances. As an agency, we do not provide legal advice or counsel. We do have general knowledge of local and statewide legal resources that can be given to survivors looking for legal advice or counsel. Also provided is 24 Hour Accompaniment at the hospital and police departments for victims seeking support.

The Victim/Witness Program assists victims and witnesses through the criminal justice process. Some of the services available to you are as follows: Orientation to the criminal justice system and explanation of court procedures. Notification regarding the status of the case. Assistance with school and/or employer issues when attending court hearings, depositions, or trial. Assistance in obtaining the return of property held as evidence. Support at court appearances and notification of case activity. Assistance in obtaining witness fees. Referrals to community agencies to assist with specific issues. Assistance with attendance at parole hearings.
