The Neighbors-In-Deed program is built upon a model of ongoing companionship and assistance and is ideal for qualifying individuals who would welcome another friend and support in their life. It is not a door-to-door, on-demand transportation program. Volunteers will be matched one-to-one to provide companionship and assistance to help individuals enrolled in the program maintain their independence in their homes as long as possible. Volunteers may visit in homes or on the telephone, provide transportation to medical appointments, help with grocery shopping and errands, complete light handyman repairs, provide respite for caregivers and make safety checks via telephone. Average volunteer time is 1-2 hours weekly. Volunteers and care recipients decide on activities and schedules that work mutually. Services are dependent upon the availability of volunteers and are not guaranteed. Other resources may be suggested until a qualified volunteer is identified.
