For family members, friends and others taking on the role of parenting a child under the age of 18, due to incarceration, death of a parent, substance misuse, illness, etc in order to keep the child out of foster care. Kinship navigators provide resource navigation, emotional support, education, and guidance, and offer information, referral, and follow-up services to promote independence and enhance the well-being of the families they serve. Navigators can help with matters of healthcare, education, childcare, financial assistance, and legal questions about protecting your rights and the child’s well-being.

The Parenting Plus Program provides emotional support, encouragement, empowerment and practical solutions in managing family life. Comprehensive family support services include parenting skills, healthy communication, resolving conflicts, time management or organizational skills, nutrition, safety, resourcefulness and are provided in the comfort of the family home or in the community. Families participate by choice, at no cost to them.

PASTA is an ongoing support group for all grandparents and other caregivers raising a child or children. Dinner and childcare is provided.

A caregiver support group is now available the last Thursday of each month from 5pm to 7pm. The support group meets at the ServiceLink of Strafford County office. Ascentria Care Alliance is a Licensed Home Health Care provider and certified as an Other Qualified Agency (OQA). That means that they work with a variety of payment options whether the recipient plans to pay for services privately, qualifies for Medicaid and participates in Choices for Independence waiver (HCBC), has long term care insurance or has a grant. Services offered include: Light housekeeping and laundry Bathing and personal care Meal assistance Medication reminders Transportation to appointments Exercises, as instructed by medical professional Companionship Recreational activities Mail assistance and organization Additional services supervised by an RN.

The Kinship Navigation Program links grandparents, foster and/or adoptive parents, relative caregivers, as well as fictive kin, both inside and outside of the formal child welfare system, to the services and supports specific to their family’s needs. Kinship Navigators provide emotional support, education, and guidance to relative caregivers, and offer information, referral, and follow-up services to promote independence and enhance the well-being of the families they serve.
