SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM | COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM - BELKNAP-MERRIMACK COUNTIES, INC.
Companion volunteers regularly visit peers who are socially isolated due to physical or emotional frailties. The primary purpose of their visit is to encourage independence and improve the quality of life of both the frail elder and the senior companion. Provides friendly visitation and transportation to homebound adults. Volunteers also provide respite to family caregivers in need of a break. Volunteers receive an hourly, tax-free stipend and mileage reimbursement for their time and travel. Depending on individual needs, senior companions can share hobbies, encourage exercise, run errands, read or write letters, make community contacts, & provide transportation to medical appointments.
