The Veteran Justice Outreach Program is designed to avoid the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and extended incarceration of veterans by ensuring the eligible Veterans have access to Veterans Health Administration, mental health services, substance use disorder services, and other VA benefits as appropriate. *The VJO can refer and link Veterans to comprehensive health care services *Communicate essentials ( attendence, progress, treatment testing, discharge plan) to Courts, Attorneys, and Department of Corrections Officials. *Assess Veterans health care needs and identify VA and non VA services.
