To promote responsible waste management and ensure wastes/regulated materials are properly handled and disposed. Conduct prompt remediation to restore contaminated sites to productive use while protecting the environment and public health.
The DES does not regulate most residential or small business heating oil or kerosene tanks; certain installation and upgrade standards need to be met in order for an owner to remain fully eligible for state clean-up funds should they suffer a release from their tank or piping in the future.
